• The 1997 Suburban is equipped with standard automatic Daytime Running Lamps that help make the vehicle more visible to other drivers during daylight hours.
• Standard four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) helps maintain steering control and minimizes wheel lockup on most slippery surfaces.
• Horn can be operated by pressing anywhere on the steering wheel hub pad covering the air bag.
• Brake/transmission shift interlock prevents vehicle from being shifted out of Park without first depressing the brake pedal.

Suburban comes standard with a driver air bag and a right front-passenger air bag. Air bags help prevent injuries to front-seat passengers in certain moderate to severe frontal collisions. (Always wear safety belts, even with air bags).

• To encourage the use of safety belts, the safety belt warning lamp remains activated for 75 seconds, or until the driver’s safety belt is fastened. Unfastening the safety belt with the ignition on reactivates the warning system.
• Structural steel beams in doors are designed to help prevent intrusions into the passenger compartment during shallow-angle side collisions.
• Controlled crush zones are designed to help absorb energy in a front or rear crash by deforming in a controlled manner.
• Laminated, urethane-bonded windshield glass and tempered side and rear safety glass help reduce occupant injuries.
• Energy-absorbing steering column can help reduce crash forces to the driver should an accident occur.
• Outboard passenger head restraints adjust to passenger height.
• Manual lap/shoulder safety belts at outboard positions and center-position lap belts are standard.

The Suburban interior brings a high level of comfort and convenience to the SUV segment. Standard versions showcase the rugged construction that’s needed in a hardworking truck, while uplevel LS and LT models add car-like amenities for buyers who use their vehicles for personal transportation.

• A new cargo-area lock/unlock switch, on the right hand ”D” pillar at the rear of the body, allows all door locks to be controlled from a switch in the rear cargo area.
• An electrochromic rearview mirror with compass reduces nighttime glare while maintaining maximum rear vision (standard with LS and LT trim levels).
• Suburban has an ergonomically designed instrument panel with easy-to-operate controls. Features include backlit switches and a choice of advanced audio systems. The standard instrument cluster gauge package includes:
  • Coolant temperature gauge
  • Voltmeter
  • Oil pressure gauge
  • Trip odometer.
  • Tachometer

Suburban seats are designed for long-lasting comfort. Seats are available with vinyl, Custom Cloth or Custom Leather surfaces to suit the way customers use their trucks. Suburban offers seating for as many as nine passengers. A wide range of seat and fabric combinations are available.

Custom Cloth bench seats include a center armrest storage compartment with coin holder, convenient writing surface and map net mounted on the inside of the armrest lid.

Suburban provides many exterior features that reinforce its versatility and dependability. For example, Suburban is designed to continue looking like new for years. The extensive corrosion protection on Suburban begins with the use of two-side- galvanized steel on all exterior body panels (except the roof, where it is not needed). The galvanized-zinc coating prevents surface rust due to minor chips and scratches and helps prevent holes, which start from the inside.

Other Suburban exterior features include:

• Choice of rear panel doors or tailgate with liftglass
• Standard 8-lead trailer wiring harness simplifies hookup
• Front air dam (1500 Series) improves appearance and enhances cooling
• Standard Solar-Ray tinted glass reduces interior heat buildup and helps protect interior fabrics and materials from damaging UV rays.

Suburban has a basecoat/clearcoat paint that resists fading and provides a high-gloss shine for long-lasting exterior beauty. Clearcoat finish is used with all colors – solids and metallics.
